There's a video that had to have been submitted by one of the morons that had gotten into a secured area, where they abused the guard dogs and damaged heavy equipment. It's disgusting and I hope that JSO will be able to find the teenagers involved. Not only do they need to be held accountable for the damage they caused, but also for cruelty to the animals.

:tantrum"This is just another example of how sick and hateful many of these criminals are. There's just no excuse for their actions!
At a holding pen for construction equipment on the northside, there are no trespassing signs posted, dog warnings and padlocks, but even with all that precaution, vandals still got in.

A video posted on the popular Web site, YouTube, shows teenagers taunting and kicking two guard dogs inside the pen. In the video, one of the teens appears to spit on one of the dogs and then hit him with something from the ground.

The tape also shows the teens jumping on the construction equipment. This all took place inside the barred wire pen and in broad daylight.

The owner of the dogs said he knew someone had been in contact with the canines, but he had no idea it was caught on camera. He was horrified at what he saw, especially because most of his dogs are rescue and abused dogs that he has trained to keep people out of certain areas.

The dogs, however, are not trained to be abused.

The owner said the dogs are doing OK and have been replaced with more "mean" dogs. The video appears to have been taped New Years day.

A police report was never filed on the incident, but the Jacksonville Humane Society urges anyone who sees animal abuse to contact them by calling 725-8766.

Joan, how about we forward this information to the JSO and ask if they intend to investigate this. Abuse of any kind is just so gut wrenching for me. Cruel and painful actions for nothing more that satisfaction of some sick need. A nasty image like that will haunt me for life. These sicko's need to be hunted down and delt with.

From what I understand, JSO has already been made aware of it, and I would like to believe that they're investigating it...I'm also hoping that the humane society is looking into this as well.

However, we can indeed, forward this to Rutherford's office!

:tantrum" Anyone that intentionally hurts an animal, IMO, needs to face very serious criminal charges. Here's another heartbreaking story, this time involving defenseless horses, and pregnant ones at that!

Too bad they SOB's that did this won't get the same treatment! The laws for animal cruelty have to be strengthened!
WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Horse owners in Florida's Okeechobee County think someone could be attacking their animals…

Mares Bessie and Belle are getting better everyday, but the injuries they suffered last month may never fully heal. These two old friends, both moms to be, spent the night of December 16th in their Okeechobee pasture. By the next morning, both horses desperately needed medical help. Bessie's skull had been bashed in, Belle's bottom lip ripped loose.

Neighbors think someone attacked the horses with a crowbar."It appears after the person actually banged the horse in the head with the crowbar, she probably passed out or it knocked her out and she fell on the ground," said neighbor and fellow horse owner Kippy Godwin. "It looks like, whoever that was, took the ends of the crowbar with the points on it and sat there and was trying to mutilate her face with it."

The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office came out to investigate. A spokesperson says that investigation is ongoing. People in the neighborhood think detectives dismissed the case as a simple matter of horseplay.

They worry another attack could happen. Their horses are friendly and they'll come up to just about anyone. "You could get them over to the fence," said caretaker Tom Myers. "They think you might have carrots or apples or something for them."

Horse owners here are now being cautious. Godwin's family watches their fences with surveillance cameras. Other horse owners keep their animals inside at night.

The fear, like the scars may always remain. "If somebody can do this to a horse, this person, obviously has no conscience," said neighbor and horse owner Patty Maupin. "What would he do, he or she do to a small child or you or me or anybody?"

I will check with some folks at the JSO to see where this animal abuse situation stands. This is just horrible.
