Not that this tells of anything other than what we've all known for quite some time and have discussed it in various threads...
The Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. has released its third annual Race Relations Progress Report.

The report measured disparities in six areas: education, employment and income, neighborhoods and housing, health, justice and the legal system and politics and civil engagement.

The report found “unacceptable disparities between white and black residents.”

The report advises city leaders to pay particular attention to disparities in employment, income and housing. It cites the slowing economy and the housing crunch for a widening gap between whites and blacks.

So those who get the report at the city, will put it on theirs desks and forget about it. Which is exactly what has happened with all the previous reports. Those as well were ignored. It only begs the question, "Would we be seeing such a high murder rate if some of the suggestions had been implemented over the years?" I guess we will never really know.

That's why I posted this here...just to show that like all the others...it'll be ignored by those in power to do something about it.

Great! The "problems" have been identified.

Now, the question is WHAT causes the problems?

The next step is WHAT, EXACTLY, can be done to address them?

EXACTLY means just that: Real answers, not some broard over-view or generalization of what to do.

It's easy to cite the problems but much harder to formulate REAL solutions.
For ONE - the effected people MUST play a part other then expecting government handouts, money and other "free stuff", which we all know isn't FREE! It comes out of everyone else's pocket books!

I agree with you, and we've discussed this throughout the various threads. Although we all know that there's poverty stricken residents and as a result, there's usually higher crime rates in those areas...and I would like to see the people that really need the assistance to get their heads above water (so to speak) they must also want more and do more to help their situation. They've got to start 'snitching' on the thugs and work at taking their neighborhoods back! They've got to send their children to school, and actually become involved in their lives.

I feel for the elderly, they're the ones that are held captive, most of all. The rest, unless they're physically (or mentally) disabled...then they need to do more about working towards improving their own lives. I don't mind my tax dollars lending a helping hand, to those who are sincerely trying their best, it's the people who simply sit back, whine about it, but do nothing...that I don't want tax dollars to support.

I agree that it's difficult to land a decent paying job...but they're out there. Education is the key to success, yet many fail to take advantage of that. There's pell grants and other means of financial assistance to attend school, yet many opt to drop out and could care less. It's that attitude that needs to change as well as creating a racially sound and unbiased society.

Joan,

I agree with some of what you said, especially the part about not supporting the whiners that never take action to benefit themselves.

I honestly do not believe that there is a "racial bias" that keeps these people from working at some job, any job, to better their lot in life. I firmly believe it is a lack of character, desire, motivation and education, (which they seem to have no desire to obtain), that holds them back. It's "easier" not to try and better their lot and complain about the government and what it's NOT doing to "help them". They need to HELP THEMSELVES!!!

We had a word for it where I come from, "trifling". It means that the folks it pertains to are just too damned lazy or completely uncaring about themselves and any community that they live in.

The old folks are a pity. Most worked hard all their lives and now have little to nothing to show for it except an old, run down slum of a house to keep the rain off their heads. They are helpless to "get out" if they wanted to, but I believe many are just happy where they are and wouldn't mind their lifestyle if it weren't for the thugs that run the streets and prey upon the old folks, their children and grandkids. That part of their life is what makes them feel "helpless", not the abode or anything else. It's their community "environment" that saddens them.

Most of the younger people in these communities have an "attitude". It ranges from being a "victim" to being some sort of self-made "thug". NONE of them respect authority. Their definition of "free" means free to do what they damned well please anytime they damned well please and the "law" is viewed as the enemy!

You and I both KNOW for a FACT that "poverty" has produced lawyers, doctors, professors and many other fruitful career people. Our soceity abounds with these rags to riches stories.
WHY aren't there MORE of them? I believe that the reason boils down to one thing: The ones that "rose above" it all were people of character and principles. They KNEW that their biggest enemy was themselves and they fought to overcome and succeeded!
The rest that stagnate in the squalor? One word: "Trifling"!
