Just to let you members and lurkers know... there's a major problem currently with Comcast High Speed Internet and any location serviced from the Jacksonville office will be unable to connect. (Brunswick to Palatka.) Many of our members use Comcast, so it could be a little thin around here until the problem has been rectified.

I use Comcast myself and am lucky enough to borrow a friend's connection to post this and check in. Hopefully the problem is resolved quickly. Though, in speaking with Comcast's engineers, they don't even know what the problem is yet...

I'm now hearing that some people are getting back online. No change for me yet.

That is a puzzle then. I've been hearing from my other friends on Comcast that they can't connect either. Hmmm....

Maybe the problem is in a certain area....

It's 5:31 local and we just came back online about 15 minutes ago.
The wife called comcast and they said they were indeed having a problem.

It was just the internet tho...TV & phones still worked during the outage.
All seems well now. Fingers crossed!

This from the Times Union :newspaper:
A cut in a Comcast fiber line today has crippled television and Internet service in Duval and surrounding counties, according to a company spokesman.

The mid-afternoon cut to a line on Jacksonville’s Southside is not affecting phone service but has impacted high speed Internet and cable television service in Duval, Nassau, St. Johns and Clay counties, said company spokesman Bill Ferry.

He said crews have restored some service and should have the majority of the work done shortly. “Internet should be resolving itself now,” he said shortly after 6 p.m. today. “We want to get things done in minutes.”
Ferry said he did not know what caused the cut or the exact number of customers affected. He said some customers would be out longer than others.

Fiber Optics are great for increasing traffic flow but they don't work too well when cut. I guess someone dug and did not call about cables in the area. Not very professional at all. Thanks for the headsup, have really wondered what the line issue was about.

In case anyone is wondering...

Comcast has been down in most of our area since a little after... what... 2 or so. Whenever the storms rolled through.

It's beginning to come back up, so hopefully others will be able to rejoin us.

Well, I'm glad that I'm not in town to have been without my comcast...is it back up and running now? I assume that there were bad storms that hit Jax today?

We are back to the daily thunderstorms usually swept in with 20-35mph gusts...It's how Riverside Oaks get pruned.:) Ive been getting slow service on my Comcast and I even had a post not post on a Forum I'm a Mod on.(first time ever)..Made me look like a fool when I asked who deleted my post...

What you mean that the Cable lines are not buried like they are down Edgewood to the river? At $50,000 for 100 feet, who could afford it? That was JEA's price to me 4 years ago, in essence the go-away response.

My Comcast is down. And when I called, they were rambling off a list of affected neighborhoods.

Thank goodness for 3G cellphones. :)

From what I understand, there's been damages from the high winds....hopefully the comcast will come back up soon
