Hawaii's quarterback is gone....remember how they said he should've won the Heisman instead of Tim Tebow....he was the reason they were #25 last year.

So.....I'm expecting the Gators to have a field day in The Swamp.

and many have failed.......

Besides I loved having the Spur as our coach. He would've been there again if Machen hadn't insulted him by telling him he'd have to interview with the rest of the candidates.

Oh well....that's history now.

I like Urban, too. He's just a different kind of coach.

Urban is good.....but nobody is STEVE!

I loved listening to him on the post-game interviews heading home.....

"Well the offense didn't play too good, and the defense didn't play too good, and the special teams didn't play too good, we need to coach 'em up a little better this week....but we got one in the "W" column so God smiled on the Gators today"

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Hawaii started this season the same way it ended the last one -- getting blown out by a Southeastern Conference power.

Fifth-ranked Florida scored on offense, defense and special teams and routed the Warriors 56-10 in the season opener for both teams Saturday. Even without injured speedster Percy Harvin (heel) and linebacker Brandon Spikes (toe), the Gators dominated every aspect of this one and handed Greg McMackin a lopsided loss in his debut as Hawaii's head coach.

It looked very much like the Warriors' last game, a 41-10 drubbing against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The biggest difference was Florida didn't face Heisman Trophy finalist Colt Brennan.Firstcoastnews.com (http://www.firstcoastnews.com/sports/news-article.aspx?storyid=117685&catid=14)

I love Spurrier. He is just a huge part of Florida football. I always liked those interviews, too - and the Sunday morning ones when they'd replay the games, along with those awful orange juice ads. An actor he ain't!

But he was definitely a character - saying things like 'well, we cain't line up for nuthin' - even after they totally obliterated some team. And I thought of him yesterday when the Gators were killing the savage Rainbows - people would always accuse Coach Spurrier of running up the scoreboard when we'd shut out some weak team, but he'd come back and say 'last time I checked we play 4 quarters of football'.

Love him or hate him, nearly any (college) team would be happy to have him for a coach. Though I do like Urban and I think he's the right coach for Tebow.

My family has had season tickets to the Gator games since I was young - back in the Galen Hall days . We sit in the lower South End Zone, not too far from Billy Donovan's seats (another flipping amazing UF coach). There is nothing like the Swamp.

Florida Gators

Non-booster Florida Gator fans may need deep pockets for costly tickets
Jeremy Fowler | Orlando Sentinel Staff Writer
October 9, 2008
GAINESVILLE - It's cheaper to be a Madonna fan than a Florida Gators fan nowadays.

Tickets to Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" Tour in Miami are going for $95 a pop on Craigslist.org's Orlando-area listings. Trying to go to Saturday's Florida-LSU game in Gainesville can make your wallet feel sticky to your leg in fear of not blowing hundreds.

Marquee games in the Swamp hardly ever go for less than $120 a ticket; it'll cost you a lot more for a game of Saturday's stature. Florida and LSU are the last two national champions.

Try eBay and you'll see advertisements for up to $695 for two LSU tickets. The game's average asking price on Stubhub.com is $329. That makes this game one of the hottest tickets in college football this year, though it's almost $100 short of the $416 average for the Nov. 1 Florida-Georgia game.

If you're not thrifty, says UF freshman Brian DiDea, you might pull out up to $700 for this week's game.

"I heard of someone who paid that much for one ticket," said DiDea, 18, from Winter Park. "My friend is planning to sell a pair of tickets for $400 apiece. Being a Gators fan and student, it makes me want to go to the ATM and pull out more money because I want to go. But it hurts."

When trying to watch the Gators live and you're not a longtime booster, there are really only three options:

*1) Become a booster and pay thousands in up-front money;

*2) Rely on the scalping game, which can be a contact sport;

*3) Be a lucky UF student who waited hours, maybe days on cell-phone hold for the coveted yet limited $10 student tickets. About 21,500 seats in the 90,000-seat stadium are reserved for students.

Sometimes an opposing team, which receives up to 8,500 tickets from Florida to sell to their fan base, will give the Gators ticket office their leftovers to sell. Hawaii, which played in The Swamp on Aug. 30, is the only school with that problem this year. Those 1,000 leftover tickets were sold in less than two hours. In big games such as this one, the visiting school always sells out of its allotted tickets. LSU received 7,000 tickets for Saturday's game.

Season tickets are sold out at Florida, and have been since 1979. Given the perilous state of the economy, UF lowered from $13,000 to $4,200 the mandatory booster contribution required to earn the right to purchase a season ticket, which this season cost $224 for all home games. Some longtime boosters have been grandfathered in at less expensive annual fees.

Mark Gajda, UF's associate athletics director of ticket operations, said he wished fans didn't have to pay hundreds for a single game. His office occasionally peruses ticket Web sites to watch the absurdity unfold. Any home game against Tennessee, Miami or FSU can reach the $200-and-up range for a single ticket most years, Gajda said.

He said the demand this week pales in comparison to the 2006 national championship game, when ticket-seekers were knocking on the ticket-office window offering thousands of dollars.

"When they come out of the woodwork for a big game, they'll pay almost anything," Gajda said.

Students know this well, DiDea said.

"They'll buy them for $10 apiece and turn around and sell them for at least $100," he said.

Selling tickets at a price above face value is illegal on campus but legal off, Gajda said.

UF makes concessions for longtime season-ticket holders by keeping their yearly buy-in significantly reduced from more recent booster inductees. Alumni and season-ticket holders occupy more than 60,000 tickets per game.

That goes for retired state trooper Frank Brass from Blue Ridge, Ga., who has had season tickets since 1979. Brass pays a $500 yearly booster contribution, plus the cost of two tickets.

But he hears that contribution will double in the next two years. It says so on the notice he received from the school in an effort to help pay for future athletic projects, he said.

After sitting through Florida's 0-10-1 season in 1979, you'd think the Gators would pay him.

"We used to sit in our seats until the end of the game just so the players wouldn't get discouraged," Brass said.

Now it can be discouraging just to make a weekend of it, according to Orlando resident Brent Fieser.

Fieser's family, longtime season ticket holders, pays a $1,000-a-year booster buy-in for two season tickets.

"By the time you get gas, a hotel room, you could be looking at close to a $1,000 just for a Saturday game," said Fieser, 25. "It's tough to be a Gator in this economy."

If all else fails, blame Steve Spurrier's success at UF for the inflation.

"In the early '90s [when Spurrier was coach], that's when it turned," Gajda said. "That's when the demand skyrocketed."

Blacksheep

Thank God I've had my tickets so long I don't have to worry about all that.

Last season the Miami Hurricanes blew away the Buccaneers by a score of 52 to 7 in a game played on Aug. 28th. The next week Miami lost to the Gators 26 to 3. The Buccaneers finished the season with four straight wins to go 7-5. One of their victims was Edward Waters College. (They have a football team?) The Buccaneers sunk EW 48 to 6.

There is currently no point spread on the game, but the Gators should chow down on the Buccaneers and win 105 to 0. Tebow will pass for 600 yards and 8 TD's and rush for 212 yards and 4 TD's. While the Buccaneers will be tasty, I hear Albert is really looking forward to chewing on some Volunteer.

I am noting that no one else is logged on now. I would guess that MANY are watching the SEC Championship game. I am.

Actually, I'm watching the Gators being out played by Alabama at the moment. Tim just threw an interception into the end zone....damit!

Unless Bama really screws up, it looks like the undefeated ride for Urban and Tim is going to be over.

They shouldn't be down about it...this Gator team is STILL a GREAT TEAM and Tebow is STILL a phenominal player by anyone's standards. It would have been nice, (it ain't over yet), if the Gators could pull off another SEC Championship. However, I don't see it happening....32 - 13 Bama with 11:49 left to play.

Florida NEEDS 3 touchdowns to make it a win...and that's ONLY IF they can stop Bama on EVERY possession here on out. Seems out of reach to me, even for Tim Tebow and the Gator squads.

Tebow's "era" at UF may be over, but his NFL era hasn't even begun yet.

Besides, there is no "I" in TEAM anyway....Tebow was a leader, not a premadonna.

Watched the Texas/Nebraska game. Texas and "Colt McCoy" damn near pulled off a UF/Bama deal....Their field goal kicker saved their butts....along with the Ref's call that there was 01 second left after Colt's last pass out of bounds.
Man O' Man...was Nebraska pissed!!!

BTW: I'm a Nole's fan too! I support ALL of the Florida teams...I live here, I owe it to them. Doesn't mean that I don't like some more than others, but it depends whom they are playing against.

MarriedBro

I favor any of the Florida teams against "outsiders" except Florida. Always have been a gatorhator. Think they were not deserving of a number one ranking this year. Look at a 3rd of their schedule, its against nobodies.

Past gator teams gave Tebow too much credit. I believe Harvin was the difference with the other teams and he did not get near the recognition that he deserved (over Tebow). You see what a player he is at the pro level as he is making a heckuva impact in Minnesota.

I don't think Tebow will make a good pro QB, maybe at another position like linebacker, but I do not see his QB antics playing well in the NFL.
